Our Story

Born From Resilience

In 2020, as the world stood still, Tito Ortiz and his family made a decision that would change everything. Laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic, they pooled their life savings — $15,000 — bought their equipment, and launched Rude Bwoys Jerk BBQ on the streets of Wilmington, NC.

"We took our life savings of $15,000, bought our equipment and we made it happen."

— Tito Ortiz, Owner

What started as necessity became a calling. Tito's Caribbean-inspired slow-smoked BBQ — loaded nachos, hand-pulled jerk pork, crispy empanadas, papa rellenos — quickly earned a devoted following across Wilmington's bars, breweries, and events.

After facing hardship that would have stopped most people cold, Tito chose to keep going. Not just as a business owner, but as a father honoring the dream his family built together. Every plate that comes off this truck carries that story.

In Memory of Xavier

Forever 18 · Forever in Our Hearts

Tito and Xavier Ortiz

This is the dream, this is what Xavier wanted. One of the last conversations we had, he was telling me not to give up — “Pops, don’t give up.”

— Tito Ortiz

Xavier helped launch this truck at 18 years old, working alongside his father from the very beginning. He graduated, he had a future ahead — and he was taken too soon. After stepping away to grieve, Tito made the decision to bring Rude Bwoys back. Because this was Xavier’s dream too. The community that rallied around the truck — the regulars, the new faces, the people who remembered Xavier — they made it worth coming back for.

Order “Xav's Wings” — 10 wings served in his honor.

"OMG I'm from Wisconsin and haven't had good ribs since moving to NC and these were THE BEST I've had in a lotta years. They were smoked and sooooo meaty and tender. The cole slaw is stupid good — cilantro and lime, which turns it green and is absolutely amazing."

"Just had one of the best meals I've had in NC if not ever. The owner Tito was super outgoing and accommodating. My dinner was a perfect compliment of sweet, savory, spicy and salty for an unbelievably reasonable price. This place has some serious potential."

"My guy can't possibly have a rating lower than 6 stars. Anyone who's ever tasted Tito's food knows he's friendly and welcoming, the food is prepared quickly, bursting with colorful flavors, and each dish is filling. Plus, Tito has a 99 in hospitality."

"Rude Bwoys Jerk BBQ Food Truck is hands down amazing! I tried the bacon cheeseburger with a side of hush puppies and it was a 12/12 experience. The burger was juicy, loaded with flavor, and cooked perfectly, while the bacon added that extra kick."

"Loved our experience with Rude Bwoys Jerk Grill Food Truck. Empanada shells are super thin like we love. Beef and the jerk chicken. Their Papa — mashed potato balls with ground beef — were perfect. The pork rings made me cry, but I toughened up and powered through. Great job guys, so good."

"Thank you Rude Bwoys for a delicious dinner! The pulled jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, I LOVED the collards — spicy and vinegary. They even added a sample of the sweet potato tots for me since my daughter wanted the fries instead. We will definitely be back!"
